The old-school approach of learning by rote is getting lost, maybe because educators feel it's too much of a strain and does not respect the students' aspiration.
Even then, there's clearly value in learning something by heart (kívülről). It gives us a base to work with and, in my experience, can be a lot of fun (when you get to pick the material) and feels rewarding (“yay! I did it!”). In addition, it's a way to catch up with things every Hungarian knows from their childhood or school days.
On this page, I'll just share random things I've been learning by heart (to keep track of them and let me review easily.) Maybe you'll want to play along and learn some of them too!
